Hello all,
I have a few questions that would be great if anyone could help. I am a state employee in Florida. Here are my questions:

I know that your employee can amend your Job description. But when does it stop? My problem is that my job is (let's call it a troubleshooter) and I only work when there is trouble or installing items that I maintain totally. Depending on how well I am at my job I can fix a problem in anywhere from one minute to four hours, this goes for everyone in my department and around the world. The problem is if I'm fast, I have down time, and my employer has been taking advantage of that, by giving me more work in other departments. This is fine, usually more work is great. But in this case I am now counted on for these other tasks, even though in my main job I can't tell you if I can get the job done in a minute or in an hour. Also I am not really taking on one task. I am taking on complete positions, that other people in other areas (we branch out) have a title for and are paid accordingly. For example:

Lab tech - We have many labs and techs that work them, in my building I have been made a tech on top of my other major duties(My desk is now in the lab and I oversee the lab all day, only to leave and take care of my main job if there is troubleshooting problem). I do not help the lab techs; I am now a lab tech.
I have been given four more duties that other people work as their full jobs in other branch areas. They have added all these things to my job description that in small parts, even though they are extremely priority tasks. I'm sorry if this is confusing. Here's the main question.

As a state worker is there anyway to fight the fact that I have been given after seven years of service five more jobs, that other people in my company do only one of, yet are paid more and have better job titles?

Thank you for any advice you could give me. :)

Added note

Heres an added note; My job apraisals have been lower and lower since I have recieved these new jobs. It's just to much area to effectively handle, Is this good evidence if I where to request a new job title? What should I do if I'm turned down?
