Domestic Violence & Civil Orders Property/Belongings After Domestic Charges

I was living with girlfriend and my kids for a number of years, toxic situation on both parts for a majority of it. Took way to long to leave, and leaving wasn't that simple. Long short of it, I have domestic assault charges, currently out on bail with house arrest with GPS monitoring.
I have attorney representing me, but not so helpful about getting my belongings and property. So my question is how best to go about getting my property back? I have clothes, indentification documents, tools, electronics, materials, jewelry and other stuff a person accumulates while living somewhere. I'm not found guilty, so there's no way I should be deprived of my belongings. And definitely no way it just becomes hers because she called the police first.

You really need to push your attorney for guidance on this. An internet forum should NOT be relied on for advice on a matter that can have so many adverse consequences for you if handled incorrectly.

Thank you, that was my first avenue, but my attorney isn't much help beyond getting me out of jail. Have considered/am considering a new/different attorney, but I don't have money for another attorney at the moment.
Honestly, I guess maybe I hoped, assumed maybe lawyers browsed and answered simple questions. Well, simple enough that maybe didn't require retainers.

Unfortunately, your problem really is not "simple" and requires the assistance of an attorney who represents you and knows all the facts of your case, including any court orders that may be in place. You may need to get a court order allowing you to retrieve your belongings.

Long story short, I need a better attorney. And money for said attorney...fml

Lawyers aren't generally trolling legal forums waiting for someone to need some help and it wouldn't even really be considered legal advice either way.

If you're currently paying this lawyer you have retained, make them work for their money. Ask them what you need to do to get your stuff back.

If he's a public defender, he has no obligation beyond addressing the criminal charges.

They do and they do. But, sometimes, problems are beyond simple answers.

Especially if there's a restraining order involved. Is there?
