Can an employer limit your travel outside of work or make you report any travel ? I am an municipal (union) employee and we got a letter from HR saying we must report all personal travel plans to our supervisor . They are claiming they have the right to do this by adhering to OSHAs general duty clause and other apllicable laws that require employers to ensure a safe work place for all of its employees. Is this legal ? Our union did nothing to address it.

The CAN is revealed by the DID.

I suggest you escalate your concerns within your union hierarchy.

Maybe not. If enough employees disobey the edict or raise enough objections, management may think twice about the prospect of punishing a large number of employees.

The OP is a member of a union. I would think that if a significant number of the members were upset by this that the union would step forward to address it. That the OP says the union has done nothing suggests to me that this is not a hot button issue for most of the rank and file.
