Capcom has ruined Resident Evil - 100%, baby!

OK. I don't know how many gamers are on these forums. But anyway, here's my quarrel with this milked to death franchise. Here goes...

Basically, if you know this series, you know it mostly focuses on outbreaks of zombies, and this is because of experiments played out by the Umbrella Corporation. They were always scary and atmospheric games. At least up to the year 2005. Multiple sequels up to 2005 all concerned the various protagonists learning about what they did, which ultimately caused Raccoon City to be nuked by the government. Right?

But starting with RE4, 5 and so on, it became mostly a tension-free shooter saga with boring, convuluted storylines. They even killed off Albert Wesker, the main villain. Essentially, he was one of the reasons RE was top class for a long time. Wesker being in a new game always merited a day one purchase. And that's because he was a mysterious, yet kind of cool looking dude.

RE4 sadly, delved you into hours upon hours of repeatedly shooting villagers and you can pick up coins. Since when was RE even about a money system? Plus, the game isn't that creepy at all. It's primarily a Hollywood cheese filled affair, with bizarre enemy types. You even get a small appearance by Hewie, the white dog from an unrelated game, called Haunting Ground.

These days, they milk the franchise with disappointing remakes that remove certain locations, creatures, and key items. It's just stupid. They also make the zombies serve as bullet sponges. The spin off games are also pointless and vastly annoying. But what annoys me the most, is the concept of visiting merchants in villages.

RE4 has one. The new game releasing in May also has this ridiculously fat guy, who somehow knows the boring main character, Ethan, and you'll have to trade with him...

Oh, and the main antagonist is a tall vampire lady. For real!

They just jump the shark so much now. I mean, how do these merchants get their supplies to and from places without being noticed? It's not realistic in any capacity. It also makes the games too simple, as it's draining the classic survival horror aspects from the franchise when you no longer really have to look for stuff. However, when I say this is destroying the legacy of the series on other forums, and I say how this type of idea is dumb, they all seem to think I have crazy fanboy demands, when I am a pure fan who cares about the lore, mostly. It's just making no sense anymore. However, I suppose they just like the games regardless of what mundane quality they may yield...

Isn't this section for chit-chat?

It is, sort of, but it's more for discussions on how things are related to law.

You might get better discussions over at City-Data.

I love vampire ladies.

A witch. Still...

Lily Munster is a vampire.
I'm surprised you didn't have Lauren Hutton up there. Is it because she is blond? You have something against blond vampires, Jack? The Vampire Guild will sue you for discrimination.

The Vamp Guild is just down the street from the Lollipop Guild...in case anyone was wondering about that.

Not at all.

So Resident Evil Village comes out in under a month. It's releasing on 7 May.

I think this game will be my last big foray into the franchise, giving how Capcom has kind of tarnished the franchise by making it so convuluted. If you're a fan who has played them all, you will know what I mean.

The series really doesn't make much sense anymore. They're just thinking up ways to continue it, but the story, which is rather important to me, has been severely downgraded. Capcom knows that there are a lot of loyal supporters who will buy their products regardless.

The whole purpose of the series was that Umbrella created bioweapons. Now, Umbrella was supposed to have been rendered inactive years ago. So now Capcom only talks about Umbrella in the newer games and related media so people "think" it is supposed to be linked. But it really isn't. Whenever they add in new plot twists and whatnot, they abruptly move on in the next game, and make up something for the sake of it, so the little plot the series has retained, ends up more confusing.

Basically, if you are not a fan who has played every game, you may not be accustomed to the ongoing plot. But it doesn't really do much for me anymore.
