Okay so I work at Kroger's and on Sunday I had a customer who lost their gift card I'm a cashier and let's just say I did steal the gift card and the came customer back in back and I didn't well when the manager has asked if I knew where was I said no and then I took it out of my pocket and put it under my register because I had 7 customers to deal with and then I pulled it back out and hand it to my manager and then today which is Friday I got pulled into the office they asked me what happened Sunday at I don't not really know much and I total I just remember that a customer wants lost there gift card and then the manger said while watch the cameras and they explain everything they saw and then I had a person fromUnion files a report and tells Union and she asked me why did I take it and I told her I don't know she has me calling her tonight the review what happened and I don't know what to say cuz I don't know why I did what I did I told them that. I will pay them I'll do anything they need me to do and I told her that plus I asked her what my percentage of me keeping my job was and she said a little above half that if I do say that they're transferring to a different department in the store away from the cashier or dealing with money I told her that will be perfectly okay and I begged her if I can please keep my job that she said when we talk tonight I just had to have a good reason why I took the gift card or she can file the report I mean I did him to get card back I don't really know what to tell her when I don't know what to do about the situation cuz I don't want to lose my job because his is one of the best jobs I've had because they had you let me take care of my medical issues and they really work with me with my schedules in the days off I need I just want to know what I can do to keep my job or what I should say.

There's no way we can tell you what to do or say. Generally speaking, honesty is the best policy. The fact is that you stole the card.

I am a Retail Theft consultant and answer questions like yours daily. First off you made a HUGE error by posting too much detail on a public forum! If your username is your name that was even BIGGER mistake. Do NOT plan on keeping your job or working retail ever again. Do NOT admit or sign anything without consulting a Lawyer.

You HAD the right to remain silent, yet you chose to waive that right, because you were compelled to ADMIT to the world via the internet that you are a THIEF!

when the manager has asked if I knew where was I said no

Now you confess before the entire civilized world that you are also a liar.

Oh my, my, my.

then I pulled it back out and hand it to my manager

You have no restraint, no filter, you must get a grip on your behavior, if you wish to remain among the free.

today which is Friday I got pulled into the office they asked me what happened Sunday

This isn't going well for you, is it?

I don't not really know much and I total I just remember that a customer wants lost there gift card and then the manger said while watch the cameras and they explain everything they saw and then I had a person fromUnion files a report and tells Union and she asked me why did I take it and I told her I don't know she has me calling her tonight the review what happened and I don't know what to say cuz I don't know why I did what I did I told them that.

Remember, you do have the RIGHT to remain silent.

You're going to lose your job either way.

You might not be allowed to work in retail (because they have databases recording thieves and their thefts) for a very long time, if ever.

You do have the RIGHT to remain silent.

Admitting to it, isn't like telling mother you stole a cookie.

I just want to know what I can do to keep my job or what I should say.

If I were you, I'd say nothing.

If you admit to being a thief, you'll probably lose your job anyway, and your name goes into their databases.

Good luck, only you can decide what you will do.

Not all retailers use databases but since "you" dont know who does or who doe snot working retail is not an option for you any longer. Remain silent remember anything you say "can" be used against you. They may still file a criminal complaint any admission on your part helps DA build case against against you.

In any future posts, please make an effort to use something that resembles proper capitalization and punctuation. Doing so makes it easier for others to read and understand what you write.

let's just say I did steal the gift card

Ok, so you're admitting to a crime in a public forum. Nicely done.

what I should say.

Your post raises no legal issue, and no one here has the slightest idea what you might say in order to persuade your boss not to make the situation worse for you.

There is nothing you can do that will guarantee you keep your job. It is completely in the hands of the employer. If they fire you, it's entirely legal. If they allow you to continue working it is 100% a good will gesture on their part. If you're looking for an action or a series of actions you can take that will require them to retain you, there aren't any. If you're looking for something that is sure to convince them, there's no sure thing there either. We don't know them or what they would find convincing.

If it were me and I had the kind of evidence that you were stealing that they apparently have, the chance of your keeping your job would be zero.
