So in 2013 I purchased a Buick Rendezvous from Ideal Auto Sales in Mattoon Illinois. The total cost of the vehicle interest at all was around about $11,000. I paid approximately $320 a month on it and had it for 2 years....we fell into a financial hardship and couldn't afford it anymore so I called them and had them come get it. So in 2015 they began garnishing my wages... in 2018 it stopped for two weeks and then I received notice they were garnishing again and for estimated $3,200. So now finally in January of 2015 the last of the garnishment was done. Now here August of 2019 I just received another notice saying they are garnishing my wages yet again for $470 once again for interest. So I'm not sure if I have the paperwork buried away somewhere so I called Ideal Auto Sales asking if I could get a copy of my contract so I could read the wage information and total amount that I signed for (which I believe was approximately $11,000 interest and all if we paid the vehicle off)... but they told me I must write a letter, get it notarized and send a $25 money order in order to get a copy of my contract or any documentation that I would like on the auction of the vehicle. So by my calculations while owning the vehicle I paid approximately $7,680 then garnishment I have paid $10,524.68 and now owe another $470..... I don't see where they could have possibly auction the vehicle off and took the profit away from my balance that I owed... isn't is there a law stating they must auction the vehicle and take the profit away from the balance that I owed on it? Do you think what they are doing is legal?

They have been garnishing your wages for years... They can't do that without a court order. Have you ever once appeared in court?
You garnishment notice shoukd include information for what to do if you want to contest the garnishment. Stop letting them have their way with you.

How much they sold the car for and how much they applied to the loan doesn't matter now.

What matters now is that you were sued and they got a judgment against you for X dollars. That's the amount that counts.

You'll need to go to the court house and get a complete copy of the case file to find out what happened.

Unfortunately, that you did nothing in all the years that your wages were garnished probably means that you can't do anything about it now.

I've never appeared in court but I don't know how to contest it?

To be more clear- you can't do much of anything about what has been previously garnished, but you can take action to try and stop additional garnishments.
The papers you received should have information to help you get started. If you can't figure it out then visit a local attorney for assistance.

You need to find out how much the THIEVES claim you owe after ripping you off these many years.

You might wish to discuss a chapter seven bankruptcy with a couple, local BK attorneys.

Well it's all done in two weeks I just don't understand how they continue to collect interest and then waited 8 months to turn in another interest garnishment

I'm confused...who ripped the OP off? The person/entity which holds a valid judgment and has been collecting by way of garnishments?

Bankruptcy because of a debt of <$500?
