I'm not quite sure where this belongs, this seems to be the best fit. However... it has to do with several other things:
*Harassment
*Theft
*Landlord/Tenant rights
*Juvenile law
I live in an apartment building in Montpelier, Vermont.
It started with parking. Neighbors that have lived in the building for 20+ years got upset about parking. Parking was never assigned, but they claimed it was "unofficially assigned." This issue led to the landlord officially assigning spots for people.
As soon as this issue reared it's head, I started missing packages. Everything that was supposed to show up for Christmas, never did. Over a thousand dollars worth of packages between December/January never came.
Then came the noise complaints, the downstairs neighbors started making false claims to the landlord that I have people over at 3 in the morning, and that they've had to come up and ask me to be quieter several times (this has never happened, they came up once to ask me to move my car, see above).
Now they are using the police and child protective services to harass me anonymously. My daughter is 7 years old, and occasionally stays home alone for an hour until I come home from work. She has a safety plan. She knows to lock the door, she knows to call me, and I have several other people able to check on her/pick her up if need be.
Yesterday I had to leave work early, because the police called me, saying they were at my house with my daughter. That the neighbor had called, and claimed that my daughter was "unsafe" due to being home alone.
In Vermont, there is no "latchkey kid" law. Yet, the police still saw fit to enter my home without my permission.
Today I received a call from DCF (child protective services) stating that they were opening an assessment.
What can I do to stop this nightmare? My neighbors are lying in attempt to get me evicted, stealing packages, and making superfluous reports to local agencies. It even states in my lease that I have a right to live peacefully.
