Hello. Apologies for being vague about certain details, as I don't want to risk giving out too many details of myself

So, I had an incident happen with my retail job. It happened Mid September to early October. I was brought into the back by our LP guy. Long story short, I was found out for shoplifting. I signed a paper, and paid a restitution (between an amount of $350 to $425), and I was then sent home.

No police were involved to my knowledge, (I never saw, nor talked to a police officer, and LP just let me go home after I paid) and I was "suspended" (and later terminated).

So, cut to now. It's been at least 90+ days since the incident. I received a letter from their attorney around early January (let's say between the 10th and 15th) asking me for a "settlement offer" of $350. I paid the settlement offer online through the attorney's website they have on the letter. The funds have been cleared, and payment has been accepted. But there's one thing I'm curious about. The funds were accepted and no longer pending from my bank on the 19th: the day before the government shutdown. Will the shutdown have any effect on the situation?

And how likely do you think they will pursue any criminal charges? Like I said, it has been 90+ days since the incident occurred, and this is the first time I have ever been in a situation like this as I have never had any prior offenses with anybody.

Thank you for your time.

You didn't pay the government, did you? No you didn't. So how is this relevant.

No one can predict whether you will be criminally charged. You'll have to sweat it out until you reach the statute of limitations. You'll have to look that up on your own, especially since you didn't tell us what state is involved.

Stop stealing - it'll make your life much easier and less stressful.

They got rid of you.
They got money from you.
They put the kibosh on unemployment compensation because you were fired for stealing.
You've probably been reported to some sort of retail store database so it's unlikely that you'll work in retail for a long long time.

I suspect that they are quite satisfied to have put your life deep enough in the toilet at this point so I don't think there will be any criminal charges in the future.

But, as Highwayman notes, there's no way to predict so you'll just have to sweat it out. The more months that go by, the less likely that the police will come a knocking.

What was the retail value of the items you ALLEGEDLY stole?

As far as the INCIDENT, if the cops do come calling, you should say this, "I invoke. I will remain silent. I will not speak about ths e ent, but will submit to my arrest peacefully. I am requesting a lawyer."

Then cooperate with the arrest, name, age, address, etc...

Just don't discuss ANYTHING when the INCIDENT is mentioned.

Is it possible I could have this thread closed? I really do appreciate the input and responses in this thread
