Hi My Husband and I bought a car from the car auction in Austin IN. We then discovered our daughter was exspecting and we would need to buy a bigger vehicle. So we decided to put our car that we just bought a 2005 nissain altima online for sale. We had several people interested but this one lady was very interested because it was for her daughter. So we agreed to meet so she could look at the car. my husabnd and I met her and her daughter and a friend of her daughters she looked at the car my husband told her everything we knew about the car and she said they wanted it.We were asking $2,800 for the car. She said that they wanted and here was $1000 that was all the cash they had brought her 17year old daughter had been saving for a car and had given her money to her sister to hold so here was 1000. So we had her daughter drive the car back to our house so they would know where we lived at after meeting them they seemed very nice and it was her daughters first car so my husband said he would let her have it for $2100 she was so happy she said she would be back later on that evening with the remainder of the money 1100 because she had to wait until her sister got off work. My husabnd went ahead and gave the mother the tiile but the car remained at our home until the $1100 was paid.So later on that evening the mother called and said it would be the next day when she could bring the rest of the money due to the other sister had to work late.I said ok.The next morning my husband and I put a down payment on a vehicle I called the mother that afternoon and she said they were still working on getting the rest of the money from the sister. My husband told her we needed the rest of the money before web could give her the vehicle she asked if we would let her come get it to do some repairs they wanted to do on it my husband said no that he couldn't do that until all the money was paid she then said they wanted there money back my husband told her that we had already used the $1000 to put down on our vehicle she then said that she was not going to give the title back until we refunded her money. My husaband offered her to make payments and she was ok with that at first then said no we should just should just try to resale the car My husand and I both told her we needed the title so we could try to sell it she said that if someone is interested in buying the car to call her and she would bring the title to us then . Can u help we are unsure what we can do the only thing we have is the original bill of sale from the car auction

The woman might claim she owns the car.
You never give up the title until you have received all of the money owed on the sale.

You have made a mess.
Even if you gave her the $1,000, how do you know she'll give you the title????
Plus, you spent the $1,000 prematurely.
The time to ask questions is before you take actions that can cause you to have problems.

I suppose you can try and return the $1,000, but its obvious you're dealing with a pack of grifters.

I don't understand why people give up things like titles or cars before they get all the money when they are selling a car.

Don't ever give anyone anything you are selling until they give you all the money.

You say that he gave her the title. Did the auction transfer the vehicle into your name with the state? Did he sign it over to her? Did he give her a bill of sale?

There are a large number of very stupid people in the world. I deal with many of them each week, so many, in fact, that I feel that the human race has no future. We are doomed.

I agree with you, Officer!!!!

There was a period of time when people continued to develop and evolve.

Today the entire human species' continued existence is in doubt.

If it weren't for my abiding faith in a hereafter and a deity, I'd say the end was near.

However, my religious beliefs and teachings tell me otherwise.

I can only deduce that the continued devolution will be slow and painful for those who have not succumbed to the disease of stupidity.

Couldn't agree more AJ and Highway.... So many folks couldn't wipe their own butt without help. If they get out of work. They don't bust their butt to find another job. They throw out their hand instead. If something major happened on U.S. soil we would be doomed because people would turn to the gov for help. Instead of figuring out what they should do. I don't live to far from the OP....... Just wondering myself if they signed the title over yet? Without signing the title, providing the buyer with a bill of sale it would be hard to title the auto here in Indiana. If they didn't give the buyer a bill of sale, sign the title over they could just apply for a lost title. Just take the auction paperwork to the local BMV.

DV, Highway: I don't care for myself. I care about the future of my grandchildren. I care about all those little girls and boys who have yet begun to live.

My children are being impacted, as am I, and you folks, too. But, we've had our time. Its those little kids 8, 9, 10 years old, and younger. I used to see babies and smile, Lately when I see a baby, I swallow hard. I remember when I was that age. My parents kept telling me I could do anything, become anything, have anything; all I had to do was try hard, study, work hard, stay out of trouble, participate in my community, read the Good Book, follow Its teachings, and save my money.

They were right, of course. Yet, thanks to many things, these little people and their future is in great doubt. I encourage them, but my hear isn't in it, because I know I'm lying.
