Hi. Today my friend overdosed. I had to call the paramedics or else she was going to die. My friend is married and has 2 kids. They were not home when this happened. Well she was having a yard sale today as well and her house was an absolute mess. There were dirty dishes everywhere in the kitchen, clothes all over the living room. A left out coffee cup from the day before. Anyway she didn't want to answer very many if the coos questions so one of the cops said that's ok i have to write my jvc report and the cps will be getting involved. My questions are... can the police really do that? Get cps involved and tell them about the mom overdosing and having her kids "subjected to living in filth" What do you think will happen with her and the cops? Her and cps? What ducks does she need to get in a row? I truly appreciate your compassion and help. Thank you.

If something is filthy, clean it.
Any dishes used should be cleaned after their use, not deposited in a sink to sit there for days (or weeks).

Your friend would be wise to check herself into an inpatient dug detox and rehabilitation facility within the next 24-48 hours.

During the process of arranging her rehab, she should place her kids with a trusted family member or friend.

Someone should contact the father (or maybe fathers) of the children to see if any of them can lend a hand.

The friends and relatives of your friend would do those kids a great service if the entire home was cleaned and tidied.

Barring those and other DRASTIC changes, CPS will arrive and remove the children.

While it is not unusual for police to report to social services (depending on conditions they may be required to), simply living in a mess is not necessarily enough to take kids away. Any investigation will be looking for things that make it an unsafe environment for the kids.
Cleaning up the mess at home is a big help, but the most important thing is for her to clean up herself. Admitting herself into a rehab program and taking it seriously is a huge first step.

Where's her husband in all this? What does having a yard sale have to do with a messy house? Either way yes the cops can call CPS into it. She OVERDOSED on drugs. Doesn't matter if her kids are there or not. Obviously this wasn't her first time. If they think they're living in filth they can report that. It's up to CPS to investigate and give their report.

What "ducks" does she need to get in a row? STOP doing drugs. Drugs are bad 'mkay? It's not rocket science. Compassion? I have zero compassion for drug addicts especially those who have kids.
