We have been receiving harrasing phone calls. I've contacted the police and filled a complaint. I've called the number they gave me to log the call with the local phone company.

Once enough calls have be logged in traced I was told I can then pursue criminal charges.

What exactly is the pennalty in KY?

Well I found out it was 90 days inprisonment and/or a $250 fine.

Get this, the last time they called they said alot of things about condoms, then sunday morning my son finds a used condom outside our apartment door. So now they know where we live.

The call log says normaly it is needed to have 8 calls within 7 days for the phone company to take action..I've logged 10 calls in 4 days. And heard nothing.

I left a VM for a police detective telling him whats going on, but I've heard nothing back yet. Its not just harrasing phone calls anymore and I feel completely helpless.

Whats more is if there calling from a pay phone, I'm going to have to find out what payphone and sit near it in my car and wait to see who comes and uses it to see if its who I think it is, and take a picture I guess...

I feel so helpless against this type of thing.

You definitely should be logging the calls and time and also use the "call trace" feature on your telephone. Information about it can be found searching the message boards. Make sure that the complaint is filed with the police, including the matter of the condom. It's not all that funny when such things appear in front of your residence and this matter has become more serious now that you are being harassed at home with personal visits and trespass on your property.

Well, its get worse.

I've done everything you have said to do, and I still have not heard back from the detective.

I then called the phone company to see how things were going. They told me that they were unable to trace any of the calls I had logged with them. And that it was the first time it had ever happen. They said if its ringing long enough to come up on my caller ID and the fact that they have actually been on the phone talking they can see no reason why it hasnt logged.

She asked me if I could be off on the times. I told her its possible a few calls could be a minute or 2 off but not all 10. She said they trace 8 mins before and 8 mins after. So neither her or the phone companies technictians can figure out why they can't trace these calls...

I don't know what to do now, I have no proof of anything.

Whats my next step?

I'd send certified return receipt letters to both the police and your telephone company stating exactly what you have been told and questioning how this could possibly happen. You may want to cc the attorney general's office. Perhaps the information will magically appear... putting heat on responsible parties sometimes shakes loose incompetence somewhere along the line.

Ok, I ended up giving the detective the number of the person who I felt was doing it. He contacted them and I never got a phone call again from the suspected person.

That lasted about 2-3weeks. Now, they just called and all they kept saying was "Your going to regret it".

What can I request be done to this individual when I talk to the detective again?

I'd send another letter to the officer in charge of the investigation, again via a certified method. If that doesn't prompt appropriate action (or any action!) then you should start thinking about how you will rouse some rabble in order to get them to do their jobs after the third letter...

Rousing rabble usually is to begin to involve the news media. First is that you might want to let know those concerned that you are going to do this since they have refused to assist you and you have certified letters to prove it. Then you take your certified letters to the press and media and allow them to investigate the scandal as to why the police are covering up (or acting like a bunch of incompetents) with regard to an investigation. Proof is a wonderful thing to have and it creates leverage.

Use common sense. Don't say too much or puff more than you have. Get your stuff together and make a very short, clear, and concise roadmap for someone to understand. Get hold of your local television news affiliate and tell them you have a story. Get your words straight and don't sound like an angry person just trying to get even... mention it is a newsworthy story and that you have organized documentation for their review and is of a highly controversial nature that would likely be of interest to viewers (and readers if you are going to a newspaper.)

That's just what I would do. Up to you what you think.
