Is Sales Contract Legal on RV?

Hello,

I purchased a motorhome from CampingWorld a couple of years back and have had numerous issues with several aspects of the sale itself. First there was the issue of registering the vehicle as the dealership submitted the incorrect VIN # to the DMV, twice. This delayed getting my tag by almost 3 months. During this time I made several phone calls to not only my salesperson but also the finance guy there (who I later found out had been fired), and the general manager of the store (who never returned my calls). Second, I found they submitted erroneous personal information to my lender and I haven't been able to access my loan details by phone or internet because they have the wrong SSN on file. Third - the Make/Model combination on my contract is COMPLETELY WRONG. I have a Coachmen Mirada. It is listed as Mirada 310DS on my contract.

Is there anything that I can do here? Would any of this be considered breach of contract or render the contract itself invalid? I'm not looking to get something for free as I would return the RV to the dealership if the contract was considered null and void.

No, no, and no.

Had you carefully inspected the RV and read and understood the contract before signing it, you would have caught all that and never had any problems.

I don't know who you are talking to at the lender but, if the lender is local, a personal visit where you sit there in somebody's face ought to get that SSN thing fixed.

If that's not possible I suggest you find the corporate offices and start rattling some cages there.

Beyond that, you are stuck with your purchase and have to keep paying on it.

I inspected the RV and read the contract, however I was a first time RV buyer and I now know that the actual make model name is a Coachmen Mirada and not a Mirada DS

The lender is in Baltimore. I am in Atlanta. I purchased this RV in Southern Georgia (basically Florida). I spent over an hour trying to adjust this via phone, but since my SSN number is incorrect in their system they couldn't do anything even though I could verify every other thing about myself.

According to the DMV there is a VIN for the chassis and another for the actual home on the chassis. They tried to register the "home" which caused the registration issue. But you know, thanks for trolling a thread that you absolutely had no knowledge in which to help.

I've been in the RV industry for several years. I am unaware of units with two VIN numbers. The chassis side should have your VIN and the upper "home" half may have a coach number of several kinds (Newmar uses a 6 digit code, Fleetwood has a FIN number, etc.). If your Mirada unit is only a couple years old, I would guess that it is on a Ford chassis and that should be the one listed.

VIN would start with 1F# or 3FC. I deal with a lot of OEM parts and I have never once encountered a unit with two actual VIN numbers. Again, coach numbers, sure -- but never two VINs. My gut says the dealer listed VINs for two different units that may be the same year or Mirada model.

Although I suppose anything is possible. But I'm skeptical.

Hi Jake,

Thanks for that info! I have a 1F# and an 1TCA (from what I can tell) on the paperwork. Which I guess could be a model serial number but it's for sure the one they used to initially submit for my registration. Mine is a 2005 and is definitely on a Ford chassis.
 
You are correct; the 1TCA is the first few digits of the serial number for many Coachmen Mirada units. Serial numbers starting with those digits go back to at least 2008.
