Parking In-between No Stopping signs

Hello everyone, I'm in San Francisco, CA. This happened on 19th Ave, right across SFSU
Today i have received a ticket, which states that i was parked in-between two no parking signs. These signs have no arrows. However there were two signs in front of me. One said "No Stopping Anytime" and one said "No Parking from 6am to 7am on a Wednesday."
I have parked at this exact location many many times since i started school here and so did many others like me. Every morning while i drive around looking for parking, this exact spot is ALWAYS filled right up to the "No Stopping Anytime". And for an entire year i have not received a ticket until today. I also noticed that a couple other cars had received tickets as well.
I just want to know if there is any way that i can protest this ticket.

even on this map you can see that there are like 10 cars parked in-between those signs
so i'm just confused. If this is against the law, why do so many people park here on the daily. Thanks
 
You have the right to waste your time defending yourself in court, or whoever adjudicates parking tickets in SF.
 
Many years ago while in college I found myself in a similar situation. The parking lots were constantly full, especially if my first class started at 10am or later. However, there was a 1-way area that had two lanes. I saw people park along the left hand concrete slab every day for a term. I decided to park there.

There were no signs that prohibited parking there that I could see. On the right hand side of the road, approximately 250 feet or so behind where I parked there was a sign that said "No Parking" but that side of the 1-way didn't have a shoulder so there wasn't anywhere really to park. The concrete wasn't painted yellow to indicate there was no parking there. As I said, I saw people do it for almost an entire term without issue.

I started parking there and it was no problem for about 3 weeks. Then I came to my car after class one day and noticed I had received a ticket. In fact, everyone parking along this section had also received a ticket. Since it was raining, I couldn't read the citation numbers to look up what I did wrong. The ticket was for $72 (I could barely make that out).

I wasn't going to go to the courthouse to look up the infraction. I simply wrote a letter to the court that stated that I did not see any indication that I could not park there. No yellow paint where I parked. No signage stating I could not park there. And that people routinely parked there without incident.

I received a notice that my fine had been reduced to $36 and I paid it.

Just because people park someplace doesn't mean they are doing so legally; sometimes they just haven't been caught parking illegally. I have a feeling that was what I was seeing and I made sure I took earlier classes from then on so I didn't have to battle for parking in the future. I honestly cannot tell you EVERY parking ordinance where I live and I expect that I had broken one and not realized it.

I'm no expert and I could certainly be wrong. However, you situation seemed very similar to mine.
