How to get custody of my nephew without his mother's consent

Hi I am a 28 year old single mother of 3. My brother went to jail in 2011 and is going to be gone for a while. His boys mother has left the boys unattended and text me to go pick them up she won't tell me where she is and i have the kids. She told me i could have custody but will not show up to do proper guardianship paperwork. What other options do i have to get custody of the boys?

Please verify exactly how long you have had the children. Has CPS been notified she abandoned the children? ("seems" not)

You might want to talk to a family law attorney.

You might want to report the woman (who pretends to be a mother) to the police for child abandonment.

There are bigger events brewing here other than custody.

I've had the boys for at least a week now even though I practically raised them. we previously discussed me getting legal custody of the boys I have not involved CPS or the cops because I don't want them to possibly be placed in foster care I have text messages from her saying go get them and I can have them would this help me any or is CPS or the cops my only option?

Are you kidding?

You have no legal authority to keep those children.

The mother has abandoned the children, and you could be considered a principal to her crime.

I suggest you report this to the police, immediately.

You could possibly be appointed as a foster parent while this matter gets sorted legally.
