paid back loan on car and guy wont give title and car back

A guy gave loan to me against my car and was paid back but wont give anything back.i left the lien on it to make sure i got it back but he managed to get it removed and in his name.

If you have cancelled checks as proof for that the loan has been paid back then you could easily bring an action in small claims court to get the proper title work. That said, there seems to be more to this story then meets the eye because I have never heard of somebody transferring title in exchange for a loan on a car. This almost sounds like a lease arrangement. Was this the original transaction where the car was purchased? Is there a sales contract?

This was my friend and neighbors brother who gave my boyfriend the loan and was paid the 1700 in cash.I made no agreement with him my boyfriend did. I was told by my boyfriend that I he agreed to give everything back when he was paid. the guy was informed on feb 9th 2012 that I had the money and its the same day that he managed to get the lien released without me knowing. That's illegal right you can't just remove a lien with someone else name on it.So as I see it's fraud to obtain a title and registration.So if I have to i'll throw my (might be ex after today) under the bus for making a deal on a car that he did't own to get it back.I got the car from my dad!!!It's very important to me!!I don't know who is lying about what but what i was told was that the car wasn't sold to him.I was told that he came and picked up the money a couple of days later from boyfriend and supposedly told him that he would bring everything back and never did.Oh and dude sent over a paper saying that i sold him the car to sign so in case he wasn't paid back he wouldn't be out of any money.Our neighbor who was there for the agreement won't testify against the dude because its his brother in-law

Don't know what is going on. If a car is sold the title hasn't to be signed over. Did anyone sign over the title to the car?
