I was going 77 in a 55 for a few reasons. Not saying they are an excuse just the truth. I have a 5 month old that was screaming in the back seat for one. For 2, there was a car on my A**, cause I had to speed up to let him pass and the so the HWY PTL pulled me and not him. I had slammed on the breaks many times to show him get off me. But I was not gonna let him hit me with a 5 month old. If it were just me, yeah, but not with my daughter in the car. So he finally saw a open spot and went past me, but the patrol did not see him somehow and got me. I have not had ticket in awhile, not that I remember. What should I do? Pay a lawyer? Get it reduced?

First of all you need to take a refersher course in driving, especially with a child in the car. There is no excuse for a 77 in a 55. If I had stopped you I would have made it a reckless citation. The other driver also deserved one but it is like a lot of things, the one that reacts gets tagged.

NC has a prayer for judgement which will not go on your record but can only be used once every three years for the household. You may want to go in and try for a reduction to a nine under but I doubt they will go that far. Call and find out when the ADA is working and just go in. You do not need an attorney unless they will not reduce and your license might be suspended.

Please -- never, ever slam on you brakes with a tailgater, people die this way. Carefully pull over to the side of the road and let the nuts go by, especially if they get aggressive. <lecture mode off>

Since you are more than 15 over, you are risking a supension of your licence and a 90% insurance increase if convicted. A lawyer would be a good idea ( you will be getting offers to help in the mail).

NC Traffic Points

NC Safe Driver Incentive

Pay a visit to traffice court to see how they are handling cases like this in your area to see how much you have to risk handling on your own vs. using a lawyer.

I did not mean really slam on breaks, I meant hit my break lights to show him, "GET OFF ME"
A child can be killed going 35 or 77 or 55, depends on the situation and my CHILD is VERY safe with me. So if someone behind me is going 77 and I am going 55, he slams into me do I personally need a refresher course in how to drive? My child is SAFE with me and I am a VERY good mother and would never let anything happen to my child if I could do anything about it. If I feel like it I will go 500mph, Sorry I am just very angry.
