Good morning. I recently got an OPEN INTOX IN PUBLIC PLACE. I was drinking in a park . The cops gave me a ticket and then took the breath test where I blew 2 x the limit. I have a totally clean record with no prior alcohol offense
They drove me home. I pleaded guilty with out a lawyer. I was sentenced to:
1. 6 months probation
2. 10 weeks of alcohol insight class
3 Random drug testing 1x per week...where I call in every single day.
4. Total fines, costs, probation fees of 500. bucks.
Question is IF I had retained the lawyer for the $750 he wanted would any of the above be improved for the better?
What could the lawyer really have done for me?

Sincerely, Drunk Criminal in the Park

A lawyer would have kept you from pleading guilty, then would have negotiated a better deal for you from the prosecutor.
Even the public defender, free of charge, may have worked something better out.

Wow, you got HAMMERED.

Were you in Oakland County by any chance?

Yes, a lawyer would, most likely, have reduced your penalty. . .

The lawyer could have gotten it reduced to a simple disorderly at worst.

But, if he/she wanted to work a little bit for you, you'd have walked.

Walked as in dismissed or deferred sentencing without all the restrictions.
