Typically, this would signal the end of a career in law, and may be the ultimate fear of most attorneys.
So, if an attorney gets disbarred for some reason, what do they typically do for a living? I guess it isn't something they'd want listed on their resume, but do they run for office, teach...
If the judgment is large, it may be possible to consign the judgment to a collection agency, instead if paying them to try and collect.
They may request 50% or more of any amount they collect.
Be sure to set a time limit (they may not agree to this) before the consignment expires. Maybe 2 years...
Interesting... While working on the software systems, we were told anything that could individually/personally identify a patient (even if medical history is absent), like enrollment info, was covered under HIPAA.
My $0.02: A HIPAA violation does not necessarily have to include medical records; it could be any personally identifiable info (SSN, address, ID/phone number, ...).
It does not have to be the OP's info; I could file a violation against a medical office for violating the HIPAA laws, without any...
In some circles, that would be considered apathy (and I figured most of us would have reacted that way too). But doing anything here (especially by a guy) might have resulted in unexpected consequences.
I recall seeing a little kid (4 or 5-year old?) taking something small off a shelf and putting it into his mother's partially open purse that was in their shopping cart. Mom was not a witness to this.
