I think it was told that the daughter's status was 'Undetermined' meaning, she wasn't illegal, but not legal either. The immigration told her mother to 'take her time' but in the same token, not...
Hypothetically, a mother and her minor (12 years old say) go into the US on perfectly legal visiting' visas from another country.
The mother married and now has her permanent residence, but now her daughter has overstayed her visa (Now 16, but still a minor) and wants to visit her homeland...
