Transportation Law covers the public transport of both people and products. Federal and state laws exist that govern use of and conduct relating to highways, heavy and light rail systems, maritime transport, mass transit, aviation and airplanes and other conveyances of passengers or goods. The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) sets forth national policies while motor vehicle licensing and law is general governed by the states. Other Federal agencies regulate specific areas of transportation such as the Federal Railroad Administration, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the Federal Maritime Commission. Common matters shipping agreements and financing, bills of lading, tariff and rate matters, transportation contracts, warehousing and storage and bills of lading.
