Litigation is the act of bringing about, engaging in or disputing a lawsuit or civil controversy authorized to be settled in a court of law. Litigation includes the process of starting a lawsuit (the summons and complaint, service of process), motion practice, depositions, interrogatories, paper and electronic discovery, evidentiary hearings, jury selection, negotiations, settlements, jury instructions and verdicts.
