How old does a child have to be before they can choose where they want to live? We are in teh state of Ohio.
He is not a relative. He has been having issues at home for about a year. He asked our family if he could move in with us and we finish raising him. Dont think his mom will sign him over and he lost his dad several years ago. What circumstances apply to this situation?

I suggest you report any child in danger or being neglected to the police or child services agency in your state.

Children rarely get to choose where they reside. The choice of residency is left up to the child's parent. Children tend to exaggerate their living conditions. I suggest you and your family not become entangled in the child's life, other than to contact the police or child services if you suspect abuse, molestation, or neglect.

Age 18 but if the child is actually being abused or neglected, you should report it to CPS.

He lives with Mom until his 18th birthday, CPS sees fit to remove him (and he will not be placed with you), or Mom decides to allow him to live elsewhere.
