Article How to create a new thread or post in The Law Discussion Forums

1. Are you a registered user? In order to create a new post or thread, you need to have registered for the forums and have confirmed your registration in an e-mail sent to you. If you have not received your confirmation email then click here to request your confirmation link again. If you still haven't received the link, look in your "junk mail box" to see if the message arrived there, make sure you don't have a spam blocker that is preventing you from receiving the email, or contact us for support.

2. Creating a new thread or post

(i) Find the appropriate forum topic: Go to the Law Forums home page and perform a careful look through the various categories to find one appropriate for your question. The chances of you receiving a quick reply are much greater by doing so since experts in that area will be able to answer your question.

(ii) Click the "new thread" button: The "New Thread" button New Thread Button should appear in the upper left corner of the forum you entered if you are registered and logged in. If it does not appear, it means you have either not registered for the forums, not confirmed your e-mail address, or you have not logged into the forums.

(iii) Enter the four numbered items to make your post: You should see four numbered items in the "new thread" page and they are as follows:

  1. Title: the subject of your post - make it useful, not general like "help me!"
  2. Jurisdiction: the place where the incident took place, state, city, county, country, which is important to know because the law is different in each jurisdiction.
  3. Message: provide as much relevant information as you can but keep it concise!
  4. Tags: enter keywords so that your message can be found more easily.
If you have an attachment, click the "manage attachments" button below the tags to upload your documents or pictures.

You can preview your thread with the preview button to see what it will look like before you click on the submit thread button to post.
