I had a trial date set for last Tuesday in Jefferson Parish, but Katrina hit on Monday. I live in New Orleans, in Orleans Parish, which from the looks of it won't be able to be inhabited for the next several months. Jefferson Parish, however, might pick itself up sooner. Do they actually expect me to be able to come to a newly set court date if my parish is still inhabitable? It's not like they can mail anything to my house anyway. (Actually, I don't know what the heck they'll do with all our mail.)

It's a shoplifting charge of less than $20 and I had my lawyer go to the arraignment already for me. What do you think they'll do with it?

Oh, and after watching all the news footage of looters taking stuff right in front of the news cameras (such as MSNBC footage of people, including police officers, taking clothes and shoes at a Wal-Mart when they already have clothes and shoes), if all of these people aren't prosecuted, then they should just drop my case. I can't even go home.
