Hi All,

One of my friend went through the Craigslist.org, saw an AD for an escort service and called the concerned service. All the information that was in the AD is only a phone number and an anonymous EMAIL ID.

A lady came to my friends location and said that she needs the money upfront and said that her boss (Agency) is waiting for her in the car, and she has to give the money to him and she will be back once she is done with that. My friend gave the money and she never came back. Later my friend realized that he has been cheated.

Now my friend called the local cops and they are saying that they wouldnt be able to help, since this is a civil case and we dont have any information or address of that person. All he has is her cell phone number and no address.

Inorder to file a case in small disputes claims court he needs address of the other party.

Now anybody here has any suggestions on this issue?

Any body here scammed by an AD in Craigslist? let me know, may be we could join together and bring these people to justice.

First of all, t he question here is for what kind of services did your friend pay? Normally, the courts will not help at all to recover anything involving meretricious contracts, such as agreements of prostitutes to perform services.

Also, contracts for illegal services are void and when the party knew that they would be illegal, or should have known, a court will not help to recover anything.

That said, even if a court would be willing to help, it is up to him to name and serve the defendant. He can spend a lot more money and get a private investigator.

In other words: he should book this under lessons learned and move on.
