My ex husband and mentioned that he can no longer see our son or care for him and won't be able to see him for a long time. I'm looking into having his sign his rights over so my husband can adopt him. What do I need to do to start the process? I've been doing my own legal work for 6 years now, and would prefer to do this on my own without an attorney. Is the possible?

There are many articles and a great deal of information available on the internet, simply search "step-parent adoption Indiana".

You'll be directed to information much like this:

http://www.kidsvoicein.org/documents/Adoption/Adoptionin/1.pdf

http://staffordlawofficellc.com/adoption/

https://www.childwelfare.gov/pubs/f_step.pdf

http://www.indianaadoption.com/For-Adoptive-Parents/Stepparent-Adoptions.shtml

Then, you search for "terminating parental rights in Indiana"".

You'll be directed to information much like this:

http://www.indianalegalservices.org/node/58/termination-parental-rights

http://www.indianainjuryandfamilyla...ermination-of-parental-rights-in-indiana.html

http://family.findlaw.com/parental-...-grounds-for-terminating-parental-rights.html

http://www.in.gov/dcs/files/6.12_Involuntary_Termination_of_Parental_Rights_(TPR)F.pdf

Be further advised, as we have done many times on this site, parental rights aren't terminated because a parent REFUSES or CHOOSES not to interact with their child(ren).

Dad may have said he hates little Bobby, he thinks little Bobby looks like another race, you cheated on him, and he never wanted to be a dad.

That may be mean, hateful, mean spirited, and even foolish; its not enough to cause the state (or any other party) to seek the removal of dad's rights.

In fact, dad will be hard pressed to convince the state to terminate his parental rights at his request, because he'll still be on the SUPPORT HOOK, especially if mom receives or has ever received any state or federal support or assistance.

Last, but not least, no one on this site will paint you a color by the numbers picture of this process.
That means, these links are the best you'll get here, as in the past when you've posted the same question.

Therefore, I'm locking the thread, as we have nothing more to offer you.

Good luck.
