My 14 year old daughter has been living in Louisiana with her father since I moved to Texas about 6 years ago. We never had a custody agreement and the father is not on the birth certificate. Paternity has been as established. She attempted suicide and has been cutting herself. When she gets out of the hospital do I have the right to bring her back to Texas with me?

Oh my, how sad.

So, the child's father and you were never married, correct?
You, permitted the father to keep and care for the child for six years, right?

If dad allows you to take the child, no problem.
But, if dad says no, you will need to hire a lawyer.

You've created a very difficult situation for yourself, and a very cozy one for dad.

Whether is you can bring her back to Texas, might be a matter for a Louisiana court to determine, if dad says NO.

I suggest you consult a LA lawyer while you visiting your daughter.

I also send get well wishes to you on behalf of your child.
