Is this a typical way of handling my absence from work? I had a nasty hip/groin injury at work and have been off for almost a month (all the time has been doctor's orders). I received a packet from my employer for FMLA and I have to give permission for the release of my medical records to my company, is this common practice?

Quite common, but it's two separate issues. If you, the employer and the medical condition all qualify for FMLA, the employer is required by law to at least investigate whether FMLA applies.

Completely separate from the FMLA issue, the employer (and/or the workers comp carrier) is entitled to the relevant medical records when it is a workers comp claim.

MistyXoXo Posted on Thanks for the post, Clarice. My doctor first supeectsd that I might have arthritis, but the hand x-rays came back normal and that's when he considered Lupus. I hope you get through the winter without too much pain!
