My brother and wifes 60 year old barn, chicken barn, garage, 2 automobles, 1 classic dune buggy, old John Deer tractor, all his tools, antiques, and just about everything they owned where in those 3 buildings that burned down almost a month ago. The fire department didn't do an investigation, just ussumed it was an electrical fire from the neighbor boys who came over and played pool in the barn the day before. 2 days ago we heard that it was intentionally started by someone. We heard that someone gave this person something to burn down the barn, but with the wind blowing that morning it caught 2 vehicles and garage. It also caused a little damage to the trailer house where they live, if not for the wind it would have started the trailer on fire where they were sleeping.
Now were wondering what to do first or is there nothing we can do, we have the name of the person who started the fire, the name of the person who paid him to do it and his girfriends name who told her son that he paid someone to do it. They knew at the time there was no insurance on the property or buildings because money is very tight and can't afford anything right now and now they lost everything, so any advice or help would be greatly appreciated

If you believe you have information that would assist the police in their investigation, take it to the local police or county sheriff.

Alternatively, you can take that information to your county prosecutor.

Between those agencies, they might be able to verify your assertions.

But, what you have now is nothing more than rumor or innuendo.

It might never be proven, but at least the police or sheriff need to know.

There might be financial assistance available for your relatives.

Your state has a crime victims grant program.

READ THIS:

What is the Emergency Fund?
The Emergency Fund Grant Program was established by the legislature in 1996. Through this program, small grants are distributed to 70 local victim assistance programs throughout the state. Grant funds are used to meet the emergency needs of crime victims.

What types of expenses are covered by these funds?

Emergency assistance includes, but is not limited to, the following expenses:

Replacement of necessary property that was lost, damaged, or stolen as a result of a crime;
Purchase and installation of necessary home security devices;
Transportation to locations related to the victim's needs as a victim, such as medical facilities and facilities of the criminal justice system;
Cleanup of a crime scene;
Reimbursement for reasonable travel and living expenses that the victim incurred to attend court proceedings that were held at a location other than the place where the crime occurred due to the change in venue;
Reimbursement of towing and storage fees incurred due to impoundment of a recovered stolen vehicle.

Victims of crime have received funding through this program for items such as repairing a broken door, installing new locks, and replacing clothing or bedding taken as evidence.

(If you were a victim of a violent crime, and have expenses other than those listed above, please see the information on our website about Crime Victims Reparations.)
How does a crime victim apply for funding?
To apply for reimbursement of your expenses, please contact the local victim assistance program that is nearest to your residence. They will explain the process to you and how to complete an application form. If your local program is out of funding for the year, you may contact another program.
