Suspended pending further investigation

My friend is working as a receptionist/assistant at a nursing home for dementia patients. There are 30 patients. She has been there 2.5 years. She is very helpful to the patients and helps out when staff is busy. Although she is working outside her job title she is a help to many of the patients and has been told that by many family members. Recently she witnessed a few medication errors and questioned the aide and also witnessed a few residents being mistreated and spoke up. Now she is suspended. She has a meeting on Monday morning. I told her to go in and say all that she knows about how the staff is mistreating the patients - sometimes they are very rough with the patients she says. What is her best defense in this case, she is a single mother and cannot afford to lose this job. I can't see how they can fire her - she is a real plus to the department.
