I am getting calls from collection agencies telling me they are suing me for credit card debt. It is not like I have not been paying them, I have, but not the amount they are requesting. I am 74 years old, I am on Social Security. One agency told me today that once my check mis automatically put in my checking account, it becomes the banks money and they can take it. I need advice please. If they sue me or put a judgment against me, I do not own an y property, I only have a checking account.

Thank you.

The only debts that Social Security can be garnished for is owed Federal taxes, child support or alimony.

The other words it cannot be garnished for credit card debt.

I think Grannie's asking is can the money in the bank be touched by the credit card collector? Maybe if there's a judgment? I'd like to know myself since I'm facing a similar situation.
