need help with child's passport.. father refuses to sign

my daughter, jersey, her father's name is on her birth certificate. i need his signature on her passport application. we have been broken up for about 5 yrs now. he is refusing to sign, and is being very nasty about it. the last time he came over to my house he was punching things. my husband and I want to take our daughter and jersey to the UK. due to the hardships that we are going through, have decided it would best for the whole family to go. since jersey's dad is refusing.. is there any other options I can do to bypass his signature? please help

Does Dad have joint legal custody? If not, you may not need his signature. However, he could go to court to contest the move overseas.
