My jurisdiction is: New York
My wife and I are both legally disabled, receiving Social Security Disability benefits. We are being sued by a veterinarian for services rendered to a pet which subsequently died. We told them our financial situation and they agreed to accept $100 a month until our $1500 balance was paid. We did however, tell them we needed a couple months "off" before we could begin sending money because we had already paid this vet money for two other cats which were sick and treated. We just needed a little time first, but we never said we would not pay the bill. They are suing us in local court anyway. What are our rights? We gave them hundreds of dollars, they agreed to monthly payments--what can we do?
