Hi, i'm Amanda from Iowa and I was wondering if its true you can go to a party and get charged with a possesion even if you are not drinking. because of the guilty by association law?

What law is that? Is this a phrase you have heard or reference to a criminal statute? Criminal law generally provides for two parts -- the "guilty mind" and the "guilty act." If you are at a party where other people are drinking and this is not known to you (an example), you would not have a guilty mind in attending the party. It would not make sense for you to be charged. However, if you were the person who gave the party and provided alcohol, you might be guilty if there were underage drinkers since you would have control of your property and the attendees.
