My grandfather is getting ill, but has a girlfriend whom he put on his checking account. We have just learned that "they" have been putting money into this account which has accumulated upwards of $40,000. They met a couple weeks after my grandmother passed away and my grandfather is too trusting and hard headed when it comes to certain issues. My aunt, has durable power of attorney. My question is, when my grandfather passes away, can my aunt legally take over the checking account and clear out the account or does the girlfriend get to take over all of the money in the account once he passes away? First post, so thank you for your help.
