I was recently arrested at a concert in Virginia and taken to jail. The charge on my release sheet says "public intoxication." I was told that I could pay my fine, or show up at my court date to appeal the charge.
I am wondering if it is worth going to court to try to explain myself. I was blacked out at the time of my arrest and cannot remember anything until I woke up at the jail so I am not sure exactly what happened. I am unsure how I became as intoxicated as I was... the other person I was with thinks it may be possible that I was drugged because we had drinks with people we did not know before the concert.
I would not mind paying the fine but I do not want the arrest on my permanent record, for obvious reasons. Is there any way around the charge staying permanently? What are the costs involved in showing up to appeal my charge?
