**Auto Dealership LIE** HELP!!!!

Jurisdiction/Place:

I need some help deciding if what has happened to me was legal or not. Last year I went with my then best friend to an auto dealership to buy a new car. He did not have good enough credit to get it on his own nor any family member to co-sign for him. I agreed to co-sign because I knew he would make all of the payments on time and pay the car off. After running both of our credits the dealer said that my name would have to be on it first even though I was the co-signer because my credit was significantly higher. So I thought nothing of it and signed. I have recently discovered to my dismay that the $40,000 loan is entirely in my name as the owner. NOT co-signer as I had originally agreed. (We were both in the 18-21 year old range mind you. I can see how the dealer had a perfect oppurtunity to take advantage of us, especially with a 22% interest rate) I do not know what to do from here. Is this legal? Should this matter be taken to an attorney?
Thank you in advance for your help.
