pay back child deduction for 20 yrs?

Jurisdiction/Place:

My ex-husband is threatening to go to the IRS and get them to audit me for claiming our child on my income tax returns because I filed to get arrearage of child support paid to me after 20 years of his not paying. I have sole custody and control. Can he get the IRS to audit me even though he has not been paying child support, and is forced to now? He had allowed me to claim our child all these years, tho he had the right to in the divorce decree. He had agreed to the payment of the arrearage in front of the judge in 2000. Help!

I don't think you can be audited for years filed earlier than 3 years after the date the tax return was filed. (In other words, if you filed your 1999 tax return on October 12, 2000, then after October 12, 2003, your 1999 tax return cannot be audited.)
