After much trouble with a landlord that evicted us with no cause, but because he wanted to put his friends in, he put the house up for sale, giving us no notice and gave us a month to move. We did, but while there, we got his pool operational, repaired broken windows from previous tenants,( none of which was reimbursed to us) and cleaned the suite above the call of duty. He signed a paper saying that if we paid half the last months rent, he would keep the damage deposit (which, in our province, is half a month's rent) providing there was no damage. We have pictures of the finished product with repairs, that prove we left it in emmaculate condition. But we have recieved papers from his lawyer saying there were damages, that we had pets, (which we did not) and unpaid utilities, which we were never assigned to in the first place. What can we do to get him to drop this? He has a very bad rep with all neighbores, his own real estate agent, and all previous tenants. Should we utilize his unethical record, or just hope that justice prevails?
