My problem - Someone gave my sister a video tape that has 1 of her children's ball games on it. It also has a family reunion of the person who gave her the tape on it. She gave it to me to have the game transferred to dvd. Long story short, I have lost the tape. The person who originally owned the tape has passed away and his family now wants the tape back. I've looked everywhere for it. I know where it's supposed to be and it isn't there. It has been mentioned that if I don't find the tape, the family will sue. Are there any protective measures I can take?

Thanks

What protective measures can you take? What will they sue for? The tape is one of a kind and unfortunately cannot be replaced. We are talking about a suit for money damages which I'm guessing won't amount to a great deal even if they could bring it. I'm guessing that this threat is the manifestation of anger and frustration in not being able to get the tape back from you.
