My wife and I have been married for a few months and she has been trying to find out info for the last couple years. Her oldest daughter wass born and the biological father saw the child a week after she was born and then ran off and has only seen her one other time when sshe was 1 yr old. He has never sent her any type of child support. And since he has not been involved in her life , she thinks it would be harmful for him to come back into the childs life if she goes after him for child support.
Question #1 Can she go after support ? and what about support for the past 8 yrs?

Question #2 If she goes after support can he get visitation? Since he has not been interested or involved?

At the time of her birth both mother and father lived in texas
Now mother and daughter live in missouri
We believe he is living in new jersey

Any help would be appreciated.

1. Yes, she can get child support. How far back it can go depends on which state's law applies.

2. Maybe. Visitation and support are supposed to have nothing to do with each other. But having not seen the child for eight years, he most likely would have very little visitation at first and would have to make an effort to get to know the child.
