Here is the scenario: I paid child support for my kids until they were 18 years old since they both chose to drop out of school. My daughter is now 20 years old and has a 2 1/2 year old daughter. She moved to a friend's house and received public assistance in New Jersey. Recently she closed her public assistance case in New Jersey and relocated back to New York. Currently she is staying with her grandmother in Queens. Yesterday she applied for public assistance for her and the baby here in New York. A caseworker told her that I am responsible for supporting her until she is 23 years old. So she supplied all of my information. She is not presently a student. Can the Commissioner of Social Services sue me for child support based on reimbursement of aid they give to her? Thank you in advance for your opinions.
