About four years ago, a "friend" of mine used my identity/credit information to get a credit card, run up a high balance and cause problems in my credit records. This "friend" paid the credit card off in full and I have been able to correct my credit records, but I admit that I have been carrying anger all this time. What is the statute of limitations on when criminal charges for this action could be filed?

It doesn't look like you are seeking to sue civilly. If it is criminally, it is not within your hands and needs to be passed on to the Disctrict Attorney. They may consider it a stale case. Reporting it is your first step.

Sorry not to have been clearer in the original message. You are right that I am not considering a civil case; before gathering all the evidence together, locating witnesses, etc. to take the full information to the DA, I thought I should check about the statute of limitations to see if it would be too old.

You should probably contact the DA regardless since there maybe more than 1 theory with which the offender might be prosecuted.
